Welcome

This blog has been created so I could wax theological or philosophical about my seminary experience, my preaching experience, and my faith. To explain why postmodern preacher you have to understand where I am from and what creates my gestalt. I am a pluralist semi deconstructionist process theologian who is also into Tillich, Nouwen, and Niebhur. I am the result of a Catholic upbringing as well as a Unitarian Universalist upbringing. What I say will be forever shaded by my own experience and relations. This is key in seeing my words as stemming from a journey that others cannot share and ultimately I cannot share theirs.

Welcome. Gentle readers may my words prove exciting. If perhaps I do offend I am more then a mischievous Puck so I ask that rather then just relegating me off to a midsummer night's dream you please let me know that we might make amends.

Times They Are a Changing

Courtship?

There is a growing link between the UCC and the UUA in terms of both denominations having a universal call to social justice, luke warm spirituality, and an embrace for queer culture. This courtship is historic and a bit ironic as the split occured due to Unitarian liberalism vs Calvinism and Harvard became the Liberal seminary while ANTS was created to be the conservative seminary. Times change and now ANTS has the reputation of being far to the left and Harvard has moved more toward the generation of scholars then pastors.

A fellow seminarian in the UCC has expressed similar frustrations to my own in the UUA where the use of theological language is discouraged to promote tepid faith in seeker sensitivity where we don't challenge our members and congregants to grow. The Sunday morning experience has morphed from a religious call to the betterment of humanity to a form of group therapy were we are made comfortable and happy singing lifeless songs.

Maybe the UCC could find use for the book The Almost Church as a means of dialog to bring our congregations to life and vibrancy instead of the valley of relativistic meaninglessness.
